Carnival in a Box showcases Carnival arts and culture – in this year when carnivals everywhere have been cancelled. In a year when much in our lives is being delivered in cardboard boxes, we began to wonder what would be delivered in a box of Carnival! This is our first step – we have so much further that we want to go!
We’ve been collecting videos from Carnival artists and bands, to produce an online parade and virtual gala, and activities including music and animation, and exciting experiments with AR (Augmented Reality). We hope that this will help to keep the Spirit of Carnival alive and bring Carnival to our homes this summer.
Carnival in a Box is brought to you by Brick by Brick Communities CIC, and is funded by Arts Council England’s Emergency Fund, and we are grateful to Arts Council England for their support.
About Brick by Brick Communities
Brick by Brick Communities CIC is a new Community Interest Company based in Hertfordshire founded by Tola Dabiri and Andrea Hayes. Our aims are to combat poverty and social exclusion in all its forms in our communities. As a Black-led organisation we also celebrate and share Black British culture in our events programme.
We are collecting donations from our Carnival in a Box audiences, to support us in our community work and to make another Carnival box in 2021 – hopefully full of Carnival performances on the road! If you have enjoyed our work here, we’d be very grateful for any donation that you could make, however small. Thank you, Tola and Andrea
